Two day tour - Komani lake and Valbona valley

Tour Overview

The Komani Lake journey is described as “one of the World’s greatest boat trips”. The tour to Komani Lake & Valbona Valley is a special interest hiking and adventure tour program exclusively designed to offer participants the best combination of pristine wild nature, unforgettable ferry ride through the heart of the Albanian Alps, local folklore and traditions.

During this tour you will be able to visit most of the attractions of Northern Albania, combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities with plenty of time to soak up the local culture. This tour duration 2 days through the itinerary: Tirana-Vau i Dejës-Koman Lake –Bajram Curri-Valbona - Gjakove (Kosovo) – Tirana.

Day 1

The journey towards Komani Lake begins early in the morning from Tirana. As we take the turn from the main road to Vau i Dejës the area becomes more rural, with fewer cars but wilder nature and amazing landscapes. We will stop for a short break by Vau i Dejes Lake, a beautiful and tranquil setting and we get on a ferry that will take us through Komani Lake offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages and wild forests. Passing through Bajram Curri city, we enter in the National park of Valbona. After a delicious traditional lunch, we explore the area and admire the so-called Crown of the Albanian Alps. During this day we can explore some of the main attractions, such as a great valley named “Lugina e Valbonës”, a fountain head called “Krojet e Ragamit”, the lake “Liqeni i Xhemës” “The old Mill” “The center of the village”, “The old school” etc.

Day 2

Waking up with such a magnificent view of the Albanian Alps will make you want to stay longer, however, after breakfast we will have to continue the journey to other astonishing wonders. This two days hiking tour of the Albanian Alps gets more intense during the second day. We hike towards Kukaj village (about one hour hike) with a spectacular view of the Via Dinarica Peaks. In the middle day leave Valbona Valley towards Gjakova (Kosovo), where we visit the old medieval bazaar and enjoy a traditional lunch. We drive back towards Tirana (about 3 – 4 hours’ drive) through the mountainous terrain of the Albanian North.

Three day tour - Komani lake, Valbona valley and Theth

Tour Overview

The tour to Koman Lake, Valbona and Theth is a special interest hiking and trekking tour program. This tour has a beautiful landscape of the alpine scenery of the valley surrounded with high mountains and attractive landforms such as canyons, waterfalls, glacial cirques, glacial lakes, karstic caves, etc. This area has a wealth of cultural heritage such us towers, old churches, caves, local folklore, reach gastronomy and traditions, etc. During these three days you will be able to visit most of the attractions of Northern Albania, combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities with plenty of time to soak up the local culture.

Day 1

We will stop for a short break by Vau i Dejes Lake, a beautiful and tranquil setting, and at 09:00 got a ferry that will take us through Komani Lake offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages and wild forests. The next destination will be Valbona Valley National Park. After a delicious traditional lunch, we explore the area and admire the so-called Crown of the Albanian Alps. Overnight will spent in a guesthouse in Valbona.

Day 2

Trekking to Theth from Valbona would be an intense day as the walk takes about 6 to 8 hours (about 1050 m elevation) in a remote terrain, nevertheless unquestionably worthy! The Valbona pass to Theth offers a spectacular view of the Via Dinarica Peaks and “Bjeshket e Nemuna”. When reaching on the top of Valbona Pass you will experience a serious shot of adrenaline. On our descent to Theth we will pass through some beautiful landscapes and wild forests. Overnight will spent in a guesthouse in Theth.

Day 3

During three day you can visit the area around Thethi village. At the first hiking from Theth to Waterfall and Canyon of Grunasi (about 1 hour hike). On the way back visit the Ethnographic Museum of Theth, the old Church and the “Lock in” Tower (symbol of Theth) and its fascinating story in centuries. We will experience local transport riding through a steep sneaky hillside reaching up to 900 meters at Qafa e Thores. They say this is the spot with the best picture – perfect view of the Albanian Alps. The elaborated zigzags’ road through the mountainous terrain smoothens down little by little taking us towards Shkodra Lake.

Six day tour - Komani lake, Valbona valley and Theth

The tour to Koman Lake, Valbona and Theth is a special interest hiking tour program exclusively designed to offer participants the best combination of pristine wild nature, unforgettable ferry ride through the heart of the Albanian Alps, local folklore and traditions. During these 6 days you will be able to visit most of the attractions of Northern Albania, combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities with plenty of time to soak up the local culture.

Day 1

Our journey towards Komani Lake begins early in the morning at 05:00 am from Tirana. As we take the turn from the main road to VauiDejës the area becomes more rural, with fewer cars but wilder nature and amazing landscapes. At 09:00 we get on a small local boat (this destination is only reachable by boat) that will take us through Komani Lake offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages and wild forests. It is considered by many as an exotic experience combined with the unmatched hospitality of the locals. We arrive at Berisha village at about 10:30 (somewhere at middle of the Lake). Kayaking exploration of the area along the lake.

Day 2

After a delicious traditional lunch, we explore the area and admire the so-called Crown of the Albanian Alps.

Day 3

The hiking tour of the Albanian Alps gets more intense during the third day. Our hiking objective is "Maja e Rosit" one of the Via Dinarica Peaks. The trekking takes about 3 to 4 hours on the way up and about 3 on the way back to Valbona Valley. The view from Maja e Rosit offers a spectacular view of Valbona Valley and the Accursed Mountains. We will enjoy a picnic lunch from this breath-taking corner of the world.

Day 4

Trekking to Theth from Valbona would be an intense day as the walk takes about 6 to 8 hours (about 1050m elevation) in a remote terrain, nevertheless unquestionably worthy! The Valbona pass to Theth offers a spectacular view of the Balkan Peaks. When reaching on the top of Valbona Pass you will experience a serious shot of adrenaline. On our descent to Theth we will pass through some beautiful landscapes and wild forests.

Day 5

Our hiking tour of Theth continues to the natural wonder the so called “Blue Eye of Theth”. The hike lasts 3 to 4 hours one way. The Blue Eye is formed by the erosion of the rocks by the water that descends from melting snow of the Albanian Alps. You will keep your eyes peeled from the iridescent glow of greens and blues colours of this marvel of nature, inviting you to dive in.

Day 6

We will enjoy our last traditional breakfast at the heart of the Albanian Alps. We hike from Theth to Grunas Waterfall (about 1 hour hike). On our way back we visit the Ethnographic Museum of Theth, the old Church and the “Lock in” Tower (symbol of Theth) and its fascinating story in centuries. We will experience local transport riding through a steep sneaky hillside reaching up to 900 meters at Qafa e Thores. Our driver will be waiting for us in Shkodra, taking us back to Tirana. You will return home full of the wonders of Albania, with a new sense of self excitement to share with those around you.
